At the WindEnergy trade fair, the world’s biggest and most important wind business platform, taking place in Hamburg from the 22nd to the 25th of September, Bonfiglioli showcases its innovative solutions, the result of more than 45 years of experience in the wind sector. Backed by solid experience in the design and manufacturing of solutions for wind turbine applications, Bonfiglioli has developed a complete range of products that seamlessly enables the control of energy generation, from rotor blade positioning with a pitch drive to nacelle orientation with a yaw drive.

 

High-performance drive solutions for wind turbine control

At the Booth 360, Hall B6, two complete yaw drive solutions and one pitch solution are displayed. The first yaw drive combines a sensorized 716T4W planetary gear unit, a BE asynchronous three phase motor and the onboard DGM modular inverter, directly integrated in the yaw motor. The 700TW series is chosen by a number of leading wind turbine manufacturers thanks to its advanced technical features, ensuring the highest level of performance and maximum torque density (peak torque of 225.000 Nm). This complete solution features increased power and is suitable for offshore turbines up to 21 MW. The second yaw drive solution integrates a gearbox of the 700TW series, a permanent magnet motor of the BWM series and the AxiaVert inverter. The key update is the 4th-generation gearbox which boasts a more compact and smaller footprint and a higher torque density.

The pitch servomotor displayed belongs to the permanent magnet motor BMD Series 54 kW for offshore wind turbines up to 18 MW. Characterized by high torque density and compact dimensions, this permanent magnet synchronous servomotor meets the most stringent demands for dynamics and speed and position profiles thanks to low inertia and high overload torque, even at zero speed. The best results are reached by integrating frequency inverters and planetary gearboxes.

 

A complete motor portfolio for wind turbine applications

To address the diverse requirements of the wind industry, Bonfiglioli showcases three motor technologies, ensuring the right solution for every application: asynchronous, permanent magnet and reluctance motors. The latter represents a significant addition to the portfolio. Positioned between asynchronous and permanent magnet technologies in terms of performance, it offers an effective balance of efficiency, reliability and cost. Its reduced reliance on permanent magnets also makes it less vulnerable to raw material availability and supply chain fluctuations, providing customers with greater sourcing flexibility while meeting the industry's growing demand for resilient and sustainable drive solutions.

To highlight this service-oriented approach, a yaw drive solution of the VF Series, equipped with integrated W and Z sensors and a torque limiter is showcased, combining advanced condition monitoring with enhanced protection against overloads to improve reliability and simplify maintenance in the field.
